At Uniting, we have an inspiring team of 800+ registered and around 50 enrolled nurses at the heart of the care we provide to older Australians.
Aged care offers a different way and pace of working than in a hospital environment. You will have the opportunity to build relationships with residents and clients through ongoing compassionate, person-centred clinical care.
Our nurses are hugely valued by the residents and clients they serve, and we ensure they are rewarded with above-award rates of pay, a choice of city and regional locations, professional development, and the opportunity to work with a passionate and purpose-driven team.
Hear directly from our nurses to see why they choose to have a career with us.
If you are a qualified nurse looking to immigrate to Australia, visit our aged care nurse resource page for more information.

As a not-for-profit organisation, we also offer salary packaging. A portion of your pre-tax income is allocated to the payment of certain expenses such as mortgage, rent, petrol, groceries or insurances, and also entertainment purchases such as meals out, taxi fares, holiday accommodation and car hire.
As a part-time or full-time employee of Uniting, you don’t have to pay tax on the following:
The table below explains how salary packaging works, based on an hourly rate of $51.15 (5th year RNs and thereafter)
Fortnightly pay without salary packaging | Fortnightly pay with salary packaging
Hourly rate | 51.15 | 51.15 |
Fortnightly pay | 3887.40 | 3887.40 |
Salary package amount deducted pre-tax | 0 | 611.54 |
Taxable salary | 3887.40 | 3275.86 |
Tax | 976.00 | 764.00 |
Net salary | 2911.40 | 2511.86 |
Salary package amount added back in as benefit | 611.54
Take home pay | 2911.40 | 3123.40 |
The fortnightly benefit from salary packaging is an extra $210.00 in your take home pay. This is because you can salary package items before paying tax, therefore reducing the amount of tax you pay. To earn the same amount in an organisation that doesn’t offer salary packaging, you would need to be paid an hourly rate of $50.00
Aged care offers regular shifts instead of the rotating shifts in a hospital environment, which helps you to balance work and home life. We can also offer part-time hours and flexible start/finish times.
For information about the other wellbeing supports we offer, visit our general benefits page.
A registered nurse is one of the most senior roles in residential aged care. Our Home and Community Care nurses work autonomously, visiting and caring for clients in their home and providing guidance and coaching to non-clinical team members. In both settings, there is a supportive leadership team and community of clinical practitioners working with you.
You’ll be a leader and decision-maker, with many of our RNs going on to become service managers, clinical practice leads and senior leaders. We also have many RNs who have grown their career in our corporate services.
If you’re looking for a change of scenery, we offer roles at services across NSW and ACT – in cities and regional areas. And, if you are currently on a visa and sponsored by your employer, please talk to the recruitment team as we may still be able to offer you a role.
We partner with the University of Wollongong on the Uniting Registered Nurses Graduate program to guide newly graduated nurses in their first year of clinical practice through mentorship, professional development and specialist education.
We also offer a Clinical Excellence Program, a flexible learning approach to enhancing care skills and clinical practice to improve outcomes for older people.
The program is taken over a 12-month period and consists of over 60 hours of professional development (CPD points).
Uniting is a Platinum Affiliate Member of the Australian College of Nursing (ACN), which means our nurses can access discounted membership and a 10% discount on an extensive range of CPD courses.
We offer care roles with a career pathway to becoming a nurse. This includes offering a Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) and a Certificate IV (Community Services) through our own training body, and providing flexible work and study leave if you go on to do a Degree in Nursing.
