War Memorial Hospital (WMH) is a 3rd Schedule Aged Rehabilitation hospital, situated in Waverley, owned and operated by Uniting and part of the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD). Services are comprised of 24 hour inpatient care, Monday to Friday outpatient departments, several specialist community teams inclusive of Transitional Aged Care, Aged Care Assessment Team, Geriatric Flying Squad, Young Onset Dementia, 7 day a week day centre, 24 hour accommodation service for regional guests and the full range of hospital support services. An exciting opportunity presents for a suitably skilled Maintenance & Grounds Officer (MGO) at War Memorial Hospital (WMH), working within the small and well supported WMH Maintenance department. Our campus is a unique presentation of heritage and modern buildings with showcase gardens in a prime Eastern Suburbs location. The MGO is a key role in ensuring that the hospital buildings, facilities and grounds are maintained to a safe, cost effective and proud standard.
The position reports to the WMH Maintenance Manager in carrying out repairs and minor maintenance jobs on equipment, a range of buildings and services across the site. The role is key to having an effective preventative maintenance program, ensuring a proactive approach, reducing the exposure to untimely and costly breakdowns. The MGO attends to the general day to day grounds maintenance across the week, supported by specialist horticultural input if needed.
The MGO also supports the WMH Maintenance Manager in the induction and supervision of external contractors to complete more extensive preventative and reactive maintenance works. Knowledge of industry standards and Work Health & Safety principles is essential in ensuring a safe, efficient and quality service delivery for self, team and any visiting contractors.
The MGO liaises directly with all levels of the WMH campus workforce, clients/patients and site visitors. The position also provides leave relief for the WMH Maintenance Manager in a supervisory capacity on adhoc days and for longer periods of leave relief.
The role is well supported by direct line management, relevant hospital committees and infrastructure. Professional development is supported and encouraged.
This position is a full time permanent role working Monday – Friday.
Selection Criteria:
All NSW Health workers are required to have received at least two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine or have an approved medical contraindication certificate. You will be required to provide a record of your COVID-19 vaccination status at interview.
