About the role:

This role is a full time (working 35 hours/ week) closed contract until 26 October 2022.

The Premiers Youth Initiative are looking for a creative, motivated and energetic team player to join our supportive and dynamic team.
This role involves working with young people leaving Out of Home Care to build their capacity, link into the community and increase positive life outcomes.

Based in Goonellabah, this mentoring role is part of a dynamic team implementing a highly successful  program and a way of working with young people. An Advantaged Thinking approach will support the development of young people’s self-determination and will enable a transition to independence that promotes the individual dreams and aspirations of young people enrolled in the program.

 

About You

  • Relevant qualifications including social sciences, welfare or other areas of study relevant to youth work sector
  • Knowledge of multiple services systems that support young people leaving OOHC require to transition to independence.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the issues impacting young people leaving care and their families, particularly in Regional and Aboriginal communities
  • Ability to provide effective assessment and referral for a variety of issues and facilitate young people's access to services that will meet their needs
  • Knowledge of the issues and barriers that impact young people leaving care and the multiple service systems they navigate
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive, honest and productive relationships with young people and key stakeholders
  • Demonstrated dedication to meet young people needs and commitment to work with them in collaboration, driven by their goals and aspirations for their future
  • Excellent communication skills including written skills and advocacy
  • Ability to prioritise tasks, manage time and administration responsibilities effectively and work independent
  • Must hold a C Class drivers’ licence and have a willingness to work flexible hours and ability to travel

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people are overrepresented in Out of Home Care. Appropriate cultural knowledge and understanding is important to effectively deliver this role.  Applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are encouraged.
