About the opportunity:

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of vulnerable families? Uniting is looking for a dedicated Family Preservation Caseworker to join our supportive team in Southwestern Sydney.

In this pivotal role, you’ll help families facing significant challenges by providing trauma-informed, evidence-based casework that focuses on keeping children safe within their homes. You’ll work alongside families in the child protection system, supporting them in overcoming barriers and building stronger, healthier relationships.

  • Deliver a range of culturally responsive, trauma-informed services to support family preservation.
  • Collaborate closely with families to develop and implement effective, child-focused case plans that ensure the safety and well-being of children and young people.
  • Conduct home visits and assess families’ strengths and needs, creating personalised intervention plans that address immediate and ongoing risks.
  • Work alongside the Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) Caseworkers and other community networks to ensure the best outcomes for the families you serve.
  • Respond to on-call needs as part of a roster, providing critical support to families when they need it most.

Your Qualifications & Experience

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, or a related field, with at least two years of experience working with at-risk children and families.     
  • Strong skills in risk assessment, case management, and building trust with families in crisis.
  • Proven ability to engage families and help them achieve goals that prioritise child safety.
  • Experience delivering support to children and families affected by domestic violence.
  • Cultural competence when working with Aboriginal families and those from diverse backgrounds.
  • Current NSW WWCC and NSW Driver’s license
